You can’t build a house with a plastic hammer, and you can’t professionally clean a home with a $50 vacuum from Walmart.
When Sehwa and I started Connor Cleaning Services, we wasted a lot of dollars on “gadgets” that broke in a week. Now we are building a kit that we hope can survive the Florida heat, the toughest grout, and the dustiest baseboards in Osceola County.😳 Here is exactly what is in our Suv right now.
1. The Vacuum: Shark Navigator (The “Purple Beast”)
Why we love it: Most “commercial” vacuums are heavy backpacks that hurt your back and miss the fine dust. We swear by the Shark Navigator (Lift-Away).
-
The Secret: It has a “sealed system” (HEPA). If you vacuum dust and it just blows out the side vent, you aren’t cleaning; you’re just moving dirt around. This traps 99.9% of it.
-
The Hack: We change the filters every Friday. A clean filter = double the suction.
2. The Chemical: “The Pink Stuff” (Paste)
Best for: Oven doors and ceramic sinks. Florida water is hard. It leaves rust and lime rings everywhere. The Pink Stuff is mildly abrasive but safe.
-
How we use it: Apply with a Scrub Daddy, let it sit for 10 minutes (Dwell Time is key!), and the rust rings on the drain literally wipe away.
3. The Tool: The 4-Inch Razor Scraper
Best for: Glass stovetops and shower doors. People are terrified of scratching glass. But if you use a fresh blade and keep it wet, a razor scraper is the only way to get burnt spaghetti off a stove or paint splatter off a window.
-
Warning: Never use on tinted windows or dry glass!
4. The “Magic” Liquid: Dawn Dish Soap (Blue)
Best for: …Everything. We have tried $50 “specialty” floor cleaners. We always come back to a teaspoon of Dawn Blue in a bucket of hot water.
-
Why: It cuts grease better than anything. For squeaky clean floors (especially tile), high-pH chemicals leave a sticky residue. Dawn rinses clean.
5. The Grout Brush: The “Stiff Bristle” on a Pole
Best for: Showers and Tile Floors. Stop cleaning floors on your hands and knees with a toothbrush. We use a heavy-duty grout brush mounted on a broom handle.
-
The Method: Spray the grout. Wait 10 minutes. Scrub standing up. The weight of the pole does the work for you.
Lesson learned:
The tool doesn’t do the cleaning; the process does. You can buy all of these tools, but if you don’t use Dwell Time (letting the chemical sit), you will scrub until your arm falls off.🦾
